When hooked up to your widescreen TV though, that works real well. You can cycle through different TV and tube settings that don’t really play well on the Switch, as they often eat up more screen real estate when playing in handheld mode.
Retro City Rampage DX is not without a plethora of visual options. There’s probably a lot more that I’m missing, but Retro City Rampage DX looks and feels great still. There’s a new dynamic driving camera, new control options, missions have been streamlined as well as getting more checkpoints, and perhaps most importantly: there’s a bottom map screen. It’s been five years since I reviewed Retro City Rampage, and a lot’s changed. Retro City Rampage DX is an homage to 80s games, movies, and music that doesn’t rely purely on its parody to be funny and interesting, it also has solid gameplay and mechanics to back it all up. It doesn’t do anything new or different than its other console counterparts, but its portability and home console duality lend the game to be played literally everywhere – and this is a game you want to play everywhere you can. While the core game has been updated (hence “DX” in the title) and ported to many platforms already, it is still a standout title on the Switch. Vblank Entertainment’s Retro City Rampage DX is a example of an excellent indie game on the Switch. “More details to come,” Provinciano writes, “but I couldn’t hold the excitement any longer.The Nintendo Switch is affectionately referred to as the “indie machine”. There is no word yet on when the port will be released. Retro City Rampage 486 requires a 486 processor, 4MB of RAM, and 3.7MB hard drive space.
If you’re excited about the port, you might want to make sure that your machine can handle it. In a pinch, an emulator like DOSBOX will probably work, but at that point you’re better off just running the standard version of the game.

Retro City Rampage 486 will be a free download for those who already own the PC or Mac versions of Retro City Rampage, and yes, it actually runs on MS-DOS. “It proudly demonstrates once again that RCR isn’t yet-another-retro-styled game, but something that could’ve actually been released in 1989.”

Developer Vblank still wasn’t done, though, as it proceeded to port the game to the Nintendo 3DS, Mac OS X, and the PlayStation 4. Initially released on the PC, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita, the game came to the Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii soon after. Retro City Rampage has already seen its fair share of platforms.
